U.S. Embassy in Iraq Urges Americans to Leave Immediately

(MENAFN) The U.S. Embassy in Iraq issued an urgent security alert late Wednesday night, advising American citizens in the country to maintain heightened readiness and remain vigilant as regional tensions continue to escalate rapidly.

The embassy cautioned that travel disruptions and airspace closures could materialize with little to no warning given the current volatile regional climate. It also reissued its Level 4: Do Not Travel advisory — the most severe designation in the U.S. State Department's warning system.

"Do not travel to Iraq for any reason. Leave now if you are there," the embassy urged its citizens.

The alert came as Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed Thursday that it had struck and destroyed 18 U.S. "important targets" in retaliation for fresh American military strikes on Iran.
