Iran President Directs FM to Seek ‘Fair and Equitable’ Talks
In a social media statement on Tuesday, Pezeshkian noted that the instruction came “in light of requests from friendly governments in the region” encouraging Iran to consider a negotiation proposal from US President Donald Trump.
He emphasized that any discussions would need a “suitable environment” free of threats and “unreasonable expectations,” adding that talks must occur “within the framework of our national interests.”
Earlier reports from local media indicated that Pezeshkian had called for the revival of nuclear negotiations with the United States, which had stalled after the 12-day conflict with Israel in June 2025. According to these reports, discussions could resume at the level of Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and US Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff.
Subsequent updates from the same media outlets noted that the immediate resumption of talks had not been confirmed. Some reports suggested that Araghchi might meet Witkoff in Istanbul on Friday.
These developments coincide with intensified diplomatic efforts, as several regional nations, including Turkey, are reportedly attempting to reduce tensions between Tehran and Washington. The situation has been further strained following President Trump’s announcement that a US military fleet is en route to the region.
