YPG/SDF Severs Water Access to Syria’s Aleppo
Water flow from the Babiri pumping facility in eastern Aleppo's countryside ceased at 5:30 pm local time under direct orders from SDF-affiliated military personnel, Syria's Energy Ministry announced in an official statement.
The installation remains under SDF occupation and functions as Aleppo city and its rural environs' principal water source, the ministry noted, cautioning that the shutdown inflicted immediate harm province-wide and severely disrupted residents' essential services and everyday existence.
The ministry's declaration pins total accountability on the SDF for "a deliberate interruption of water," emphasizing that attacking critical infrastructure while denying civilians fundamental necessities represents a grave breach of international humanitarian law and established standards.
Officials pledged maximum efforts to reinitiate water distribution and restore operations, urging concerned entities and global institutions to fulfill their obligations regarding SDF actions that endanger the humanitarian and service welfare of millions.
Syrian forces commenced relocating encircled SDF personnel from Aleppo's Sheikh Maqsoud district to Tabqah in Raqqa province Saturday, after halting military action in the zone.
Beginning Tuesday, the SDF bombarded residential areas, civilian structures, and Syrian Army locations throughout Aleppo. These strikes have produced 23 fatalities, more than 100 casualties, and compelled approximately 165,000 inhabitants to abandon the Ashrafieh and Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhoods.
March 2025 saw Syria's presidency reveal an accord for SDF incorporation into governmental frameworks, reinforcing national territorial integrity and rebuffing partition attempts.
April 2025 brought Syrian officials and the SDF to terms regarding Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh, designating both zones as administrative components of Aleppo while honoring their distinct local characteristics.
That agreement further mandated eliminating armed displays, confining weaponry to internal security apparatus, and demanding SDF military withdrawal to territories east of the Euphrates River in Syria's northeast.
Yet authorities assert that throughout subsequent months, the SDF has demonstrated zero commitment to fulfilling agreement conditions.
Syria's government has accelerated security stabilization nationwide following the Assad regime's removal in December 2024, concluding 24 years of authority.
